Bansko

Bansko is a modern and dynamically developing ski resort in Southwestern Bulgaria. It
is a place offering excellent ski facilities and mild climate. Here one can feel at home and is always welcome. The combination of the beautiful alleys of the Old City with its history and traditions, new hotels, modern ski tracks system, and lifts made Bansko become one of the best ski resorts in Eastern Europe.

The surrounding mountains of Pirin, Rila and Rhodope create unique mountain climate with
hot short summers and mild long winters . With its wonderful geographical location - 160km from Sofia, 96 km from Blagoevgrad and at an altitude of 936 meters at the foot of the Pirin Mountain, Bansko attracts visitors from both the Balkans and Europe. Each year the town welcomes about 250,000 people because unlike most ski resorts, Bansko is suitable for recreation during all seasons of the year.

Bansko is undoubtedly best known as a winter mountain sports spot such as skiing and snowboarding. The total length of the slopes here is 75 km, the longest of which is 16 km. Almost 90% of all tracks have snow cannons that help the creation of high quality and long lasting snow cover. There is also a track which is lit in night time. During the winter season, the city offers an outdoor ice rink. The highest point of the ski area is located at an altitude of 2560 meters, and the most difficult of all tracks is "Tomba", whose godfather is Italian skier Alberto Tomba. Climbing a mountain is facilitated by gondola, which departs from Bansko and reaches Banderishka Polyana, which is also reachable by a seven-kilometer mountain road.

In summer the mountain roads and ski slopes can be used as routes for mountain biking. Typical Bansko architecture dates back to the Renaissance (XVIII - XIX century) and can be seen in the Old City.

The Museum House "Nikola Vaptsarov" was opened in 1952, and marked the beginning of the museums in the city. The museum tells about the life of the poet Nikola Vaptsarov, from his birth to his death.
