Balchik
Balchik is an ancient settlement and one of the oldest Greek colonies along the Black Sea, founded more than two and a half thousand years, and today is known for its ancient archaeological sites.
The city is located on the terraces of picturesque white cliffs in a small bay on the coast of Black Sea. Balchik is famous for the high quality of the cultivated local grape varieties here.
Balchik is situated 31 km from Varna, 37 km southeast of Dobrich, 500 km east of Sofia, 38 km from Varna International Airport, 20 kilometers from the resort of Albena and 30 minutes drive from the most famous resorts of Golden Sands and St. Constantine and Helena.

The palace complex of Queen Marie Alexandra Victoria of Saxe-Coburg (1875-1938) was built in the period between 1924 and 1937 by the Italian architects Amerigo and Augustine. The garden was designed by the Swiss gardener Jules Jany, who until 1917 worked as head gardener at the palace of the Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
Nowadays, the palace and the garden are fully preserved and open to visitors.
The complex is protected by UNESCO as a monument of world architecture.
Surroundings
The holiday village "Dyuni", which is located 4 km east of the city, is known for its medicinal mud. There is a SPA center built next to two lakes formed as a result of the impact of old landslides. The lake bottoms are covered with a substance suitable for the treatment of joints. There is also a large rehabilitation center, many villas, bungalows, and camping sites such as Sandrino and Beli Bryag which offer a variety of opportunities for sports and recreation.
